Akira Ishiwatari, born and reaised in Tokyo, is the creative mind on which the brand is based around. The prevalent inspiration for this line is based on the fusion of between the style and culture of the East, meeting that of the West. The name Platoy is based on wordplay from the phrase “play plastic toys”, evoking the wonder of when a child picks up a new toy for the first time, yet the frames are handcrafted with the attention to detail and care that are typical of the Japanese tradition.
